Carson on niche Bibles

“I view with unmitigated horror the multiplication of Bibles with notes designed for narrower and narrower groups. It will not surprise me if we soon have Bibles designed for left-handed athletes from Nebraska. These trends merely serve the idolatrous notion that God and his Word exist primarily to serve us in all our self-focused individuality.”

From D. A. Carson, “The Limits of Functional Equivalence in Bible Translation—And Other Limits, Too,” in Glen Scorgie, et al., eds, The Challenge of Bible Translation: Communicating God’s Word to the World (Zondervan, 2003). Kindle edition. Kindle Locations 2258-60.
