Howard Ervin on 2 Corinthians 6:14 – 7:1

In perusing Larry Oats’s doctoral dissertation (“The Relationship of Ecclesiology to the Doctrine of Ecclesiastical Separation Evidenced in the New Evangelical and Fundamentalist Movements of the Middle Twentieth Century,” TEDS, 1999), I found he addresses the use of 2 Cor 6:14 – 7:1 as the touchstone passage for churches pulling out of liberal denominations in the mid-twentieth century.  The National Association of Evangelicals rejected such an application of the passage, contending that it applied only to separation from idolaters, not apostasy within the church. Oats references an outstanding article by Howard Ervin which effectively counters the contention of the NAE.

The excellent article by Howard Ervin is online here.
